About Spoon Shares

Welcome to Spoon Shares! Where people with chronic illnesses gather to share their stories and experiences in hopes that it will help a fellow spoonie in need. Because we are each other’s most invaluable resource.

What the kumquat is a spoonie? Well, a spoonie is the name, coined from Christine Miserandino’s spoon theory (TL;DR version here), for a person dealing with any form of chronic illness. Or put another way:

A spoonie is a person trying to navigate life while having a body or mind that is, in some way, failing them.

That may sound horribly depressing, but it’s also a reality for many people. It presents people with its own unique challenges and daily dilemmas.

As spoonies, we have to “count spoons” and calculate every moment of our day in order to make it through as best we can. On any given day, we’ll only have a finite amount of spoons to spend from. It often can feel lonely and isolating in a world seemingly full of healthy and able people…but we need to realize that we are far from alone! There are so many of us living our lives with this sometimes-invisible burden.

This site is for us to gather together and share our stories, tips, and experiences in order to help us each achieve maximum emotional and physical wellness.

So let’s share. Let’s talk. More to the point, let’s blog. Or vlog, depending on your style. You have stories and we want to hear them!

Read the articles and learn from other people living life with chronic illness. Hopefully you will find something to implement into your personal management plan! Then feel free to spread the favor and share your own experiences!
